Hi there! We’re Jason and Melissa, the new owners of THUNDER LAKE CABINS, and we’re thrilled to welcome you to your next U.P. adventure spot!!
Along with our kids and adventure-loving dog, Oakley, we’ve fallen head over heals for the Upper Peninsula- and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Why do we love the U.P. so much? It’s the kind of place that slows you down in all the best ways. The quiet mornings on the lake, the smell of pine and cedar after a rain, the way the stars light up the sky at night- it’s pure, peaceful, and real. There’s something grounding about being surrounded by nature that still feels wild and untouched.
From kayaking at sunset on Thunder Lake to laughing around the bonfire with family, this place has a way of turning simple moments into unforgettable ones. That’s the magic we’ve found here- and we’re excited to share it.

FISHING ON THUNDER LAKE – Anglers love Thunder Lake for its abundant fish populations, including pike, largemouth bass, bluegill, and perch. With its clear water and peaceful surroundings, its the perfect spot for early morning casts or sunset fishing sessions. Bring your boat or use one of our Jon Boats with motors available to rent.
KAYAKING ADVENTURES– paddle along the tree-lined shoreline and soak in the natural beauty of Michigan’s northern woods. The calm waters make it ideal for paddlers of all experience levels, and the sunsets over the lake are nothing short of magical!
EXPLORE THE TRAILS AROUND THUNDER LAKE- SNOWMOBILING & 4-WHEELING ADVENTURES STARTS HERE! Thunder Lake is a go-to destination for outdoor adventure all year long- especially for snowmobilers and 4-wheeling enthusiasts. In the snowy season, snowmobilers will find well-maintained, groomed trails with scenic views around every bend. When the snow melts, 4-wheelers and side-by-siders can enjoy rugged terrain, wooded trails, and miles of adventure.
RIDE DIRECTLY FROM YOUR CABIN– Our cozy cabins are conveniently located on ORV-friendly roads, so you can hop on your 4-wheeler or snowmobile and hit the trails right from your doorstep- no need to trailer your machine.
THUNDER BOWL – JUST 1 MILE AWAY! Located just 1 mile down the road, the Thunder Bowl is a local favorite for ORV riders and snowmobilers. It’s a great place to ride, meet up with friends, or simple take a break in the heart of the action.
RECONNECT WITH NATURE- Scenic hiking. The Thunder Lake area boasts beautiful hiking trails that wind through hardwood forests, along wetlands, and up gentle ridges. You can enjoy a peaceful walk to spot wildlife or embark on a longer trek to reconnect with nature – the serenity and beauty of this region never disappoint.
HUNTING IN THE HEART OF THE U.P.- The areas surrounding Thunder Lake offer prime hunting opportunities. DAYS ON THE LAKE
Our 36×40 sundeck overhangs the lake, for use by all guest…great for sunbathing, family get togethers, barbecues or just plain relaxing!!!
All guests have access to our canoes, Jon boats, kayaks, and pedal boats.
NIGHTS BY THE BONFIRE
Roast marshmallows, eat smores and share stories around your private campfire ring!!!
